Paste & Cut Travelling Box #3 - Reviews and Comments

When I first started using Mikes I only had some samples and almost gave up on the soap - because of exactly the same reason. Even with a full puck, you need to load Mikes longer than most other soaps, and that is extremely difficult with the small area provided by the sample size.

I would suggest you press the sample and flatten it, increasing the area and then load it like you absolutely hate it and then even some - good luck!
Thanks, I'll give it a try in a few days after I try out a few other soaps and work on my sample loading technique.

Tried the Pannacrema Vetiver - lovely scent and really bloomed when I hit it with a warm lather bowl and brush. Doubt I got the water/soap ration quite right here but still a nice yoghurty lather.

Great results with the schick injector, the smaller head makes getting under the nose really easy. The plastic handle is a little slippery with soapy hands, I think I would prefer an older version maybe with the bakelite or metal handle.

Trying to talk SWMBO into dropping by Turnleys to pick up some Pinaud Bay Rum but she isn't very keen on the scent. Hopefully I can find something else in the box that she likes.

Tried the LPL Le Savon du Barbier tonight. Lovely soap that lathered up a storm with my TGC synthetic. Needed little water to get going and left my face feeling soft and smooth (apart from the nick under my nose from the schick injector) and was complemented well by the Aesop Moroccan Neroli Post-shave lotion - which I feel is more a cream or balm than a lotion.

My wish list is getting longer but I doubt if I've ever been as good as I'd need to be to get it all. Thanks @Mark1966 for putting this together

Yesterday morning I tried one of the Frapin Cologne (EDP?) samples. Not sure exactly which one as they aren't labelled, but it had a solid citrus scent so it might have been the Terre De Sarment. Lovely scent and kept getting wafts all day long.

For last night's shave I went with the Jabonman Ylang-Ylang Patchouli soap - the synth whipped up a lovely creamy lather in no time and scent took me back to the late eighties when everyone was using oil burners (at least the hippy wannabes I grew up around) and Ylang-Ylang was always one of the faves. Unfortunately I had used Draco Noir's Pre-shave oil and as soon as I applied to my face the lather fell down and disappeared. Luckily I bowl lather so after a quick rinse of brush and a wash of the face I was back up and running. Nice slick lather but maybe an after effect of the pre-shave oil but not as cushioning as I had expected given the consistency in the bowl.

Topped the shave off with some Le Pere Lucien Lotion du Barbier - very calming on the skin and I think I'm becoming a big fan of vetiver and sandalwood.

This morning I tried the Geo F Trumpers Eucris and was again immediately transported back to the late Eighties but this time I was reminded of overflowing ashtrays and the smell on your clothes the morning after a big nightout. For about about an hour I was getting reminders of why I'm really happy that you can't smoke inside bars and restaurants anymore. It has settled down now and become more sandalwood orientated, but this wont be on the wish list.

Scents and memories! Great to read your comments @StueyB
Seems like the last few shaves have been Eighties flashbacks minus the cartridge razor and Kylie Minogue. [emoji38]

Just so you are not missing out!

I went to school in Nunawading - just up the road from Channel 10 - and when Neighbours needed to film a scene at school it was always our school.
We used to ride our pushies down to "Ramsay Street" in the hops of seeing Kylie after school. Ahh to be young and full of hormones again:love:

Thought I had posted before but seems I forgot to hit send or something.

Wednesday night's shave was a complete write off. It was to not the worst shave since starting wet shaving then in the bottom three.

Things started ginger wrong with the choice of soap. Used the B&M Roam, looked at a few reviews that mentioned leather, campfires, smoke and other manly stuff. Instead all I got was a face full of ashtray. An overflowing ashtray where some of the old buts had started to smoulder kind of ashtray.

The lather was fine and slick but even B&M cushioning lather couldn't help with my ineptitude with the Gem. Just couldn't get the angle or pressure right and ended up with a bunch of micro-nicks and massive razor burn.

Took Thursday of to try to allow my skin to recover. Friday night went with the B&M Black Label Beaudelaire. Much better scent and quite a thirsty soap. Took a lot more water than I'm used to with the Latha, but lovely rich creamy result.

Got the Gem under control and ended up with a nice close shave and only reopened one of the nicks from Wednesday's fiasco.

Onething I've learnt from the travelling box is that tobacco/smoke scents aren't for me

Yeah @StueyB the Roam is interesting. Funny thing is that I get more paspalum now ...

Mate, not only did I have to look up the definition of "paspalum", but I don't know what that type of grass smells like...

BTW - don't right off the all tobacco scents. Alt Innsbruck for example smell VERY different to the Roam as does the Shaver Heaven Green Tobacco.

I'll give the shaver heaven green tobacco a try. It seems to be a lot fresher/greener than the roam.

I also had to look up papsalum, and apart from the smell of fresh cut grass - which the roam didn't have - I've for no idea what it child smell like

Yeah it is basically a sweet, grassy smell. Paspalum is a grassy weed with a very grassy type smell.

I found the Roam has a whole range of scents. I'm still not sure I like it but I'm still experimenting with it :)

See my review here if interested.

Ain't nuthin' sweet about paspalum. Used to get horrible rashes on my legs when I played Aussie Rules as a kid. Luckily it was one of those things kids "grow out of".

Yep, that is it.

Seems I've turned into a bit of a techtard and half om my posts via Tapatalk don't end up actually getting posted - either that I'm just imagining that I'm posting

Monday, I tried Soap Commander Motivation - face lathered with TGC Synth and removed with Gem (from the box). Nice slick lather that offered good protection but the scent was a little lacking. Didn't really change from the dry soap to lather on my face. Definitely pleasant just a little underwhelming.

Tuesday, The Musgo Real Lime Basil Shaving Cream has a nice refreshing scent - although I would prefer a little more emphasis on the Lime - and created a nice thick lather. Been a while since I've used a cream and I'd forgotten the convenience of them.

This morning, Shaver Heaven Green Tobacco - now that is a much more pleasant scent that the other "tobacco" related scents from the travel box. No hint of dirty ashtray here. Soap lathered as expected from a Shave Heaven soap and matched nicely with the Le Pere Lucien Lotion du Barbier.

I am not sure what is going on, but Egg and I posted some threads to Mark's 'Which Bike' thread that had disappeared the next day..... and I know they were there. So I think it is not just you.

So you didn't delete my hijack attempt at said Mark's Which Bike thread???

Nope.... It disappeared and I have no idea why unless Mark decided to remove them!
