Voskhod - Mostochlegmash's finest blades? From Russia, with love!

Funnily enough, I tried one of these this morning too.

They're ok, such is the subjectivity of blades. I agree with most of your comments - very comfortable, forgiving blade. Not very sharp though. No work needed, like with Reds, just not a very efficient blade for me.

Decent enough, just no glitter and party streamers...

I didn't have a problem as such with the sharpness; given that we normally do two or three passes, I thought it was okay.

Certainly not as sharp as the Feather or the Gillette Dark Plat, or even the Personna.

A good workhorse blade however.

Got my 100 yesterday, and had a shave last night, pretty good. Nice clean shave no weepers. Two clicks and a twirl from me.

Well, after 3 shaves with one while away, I can definitely see where the Voskhod-lovers are coming from.

Unfortunately I did not get a 4th save out of the blade as I was travelling home (razor in a wet-pack, so movement would have likely rubbed off any remaining PTFE or even dulled the blade. There was definitely more shaving in it for me, I reckon 4 shaves would be about right.

I am pleased with these blades. Will keep going with this pack and finish them off - certainly want to be able to give a good review of them.

I've now got my Feather wing razor and I've got a Voskhod in both my DE86 and the Feather.

So using the Feather - I used Speick and got a very low quality lather - poor prep on my part I admit, and the resulting shave was lacking.

I have patchy stubble and small red bumps on my neck and I felt that I had to apply pressure when shaving, as the weight of the Feather is much less than my normal DE86.

Not happy at all with the combo of the blade and razor, but I will try a few more through the Feather before I condemn it. I suspect it's going to be an "emergency use only" razor.

RussianRazor.com has unfortunately closed. I am led to believe that Mynor found the time required to run the operation was fast becoming unsustainable for his other commitments.

He has passed on the stock to David at Razorblades and More. David is a trusted supplier in my book and now having a much wider range of blades makes his operation even more appealing.

I notice he is also stocking the Gillette Silver Blues which have been rather unavailable for a long time. This are known as sharper yet harsher blades than either the dark or white platinums. I am getting some to try, along with a few other bits and pieces.

Today I shaved using my DE86.

I'm somewhat convinced the Feather is a crap razor. It's light, no feeling and just shoddy.

Anyway.

Using the Voskhod on it's third shave was delightful. Very close to a BBS.

The blade needs a weighty razor to give it the pressure required to do its job.

I even went back to Proraso cream for this shave, and I am now satisfied the Voskhod and cream are a good match.

There are better, sharper blades out there indeed, but this blade in the right combo works lovely.

I suggest trying the blade for a 4th shave in another razor if you have one - maybe a Vintage Gillette of some description?? Slim/Fatboy/Redtip probably the best, then the standard Superspeeds.

I am going to try the next one in my NEW, but tomorrow's shave is a Slim/GBE with Proraso I have decided. I am celebrating 2 weeks left in my job before they pay me out and make me redundant.

I'd also try the Voskhod in the DE86 as a fresh blade and let me know how you go. I think you will be surprised. It's a good blade, but I have found that the PTFE coating suffers after the second shave, the first shave is really good and the second is pretty good. The third is passable and the 4th brings irritation for me, although the blade is still sharp enough it tends to lack the smoothness that the PTFE gives it.

I received 2 samples from Russian Razor and tried them in several different razors. They are not bad at all. Very smooth and sharp. However, only one supplier in the US is selling them at the moment as far as I can tell (Razorbladesandmore).

They are good blades, but they cannot hold a candle to something a NOS Bleue Extra or a 7OC Black.

Voskhods are a very good utilitarian blade and excellent value for money, and I quite like them in the rotation. You must remember that these are a mid-range domestic blade in Russia and a good whack of the former socialist states of Europe. These are not meant to be a top level blade.

For me, I put them on par with a Personna Red/Platinum. A good blade, but there are better out there. I found the longevity was also a bit short once the PTFE started wearing off. Third shave was not as good as the first two but still decent, while the 4th was getting rather rough and required a bit of care.

May buy more as time goes on, just keeping a couple of hundred there for something different. I know that many will want these in sample packs so they will be eaten up reasonably fast. Next up are the Ladas blades. Will hopefully have a burl with one later this week, I have a 7OC Black to finish off yet.

I finished off a week using these blades. Still better than a cart, but after three shaves for me they lost the edge.

I wouldn't go more than two shaves with these during the week, as I prefer to have a good close to BBS as possible Mon-Fri.

In other news, I switched to a Feather blade Saturday morning and cut myself four times.

This happened because I got complacent and used a blade longer than I should have, then was a bit hasty with a Feather.

For me Voskhod and Ladas are the same blade and provide wonderful shaves, like the ones I get everytime I use the Astra SS,my fav. blade. The Rapira Platinum Lux arent as soft as those two ones and I need to try the Rapira Swedish Steel.

Yay! Vision Collision 4.0 first necro thread.

For no reason whatsoever, I threw one of these in a couple of days ago. Far better than my first outing, but an odd experience. First pass, they felt about as sharp as Reds, Second they seem to get a lot better, third, I could even go ATG on some dodgy bits on my neck and if was close and comfy as. Dunno why I bothered to do that, I just felt that I could.

Perhaps these work really well with minimal stubble? I've got a couple left, so they'll get another run. If these and the Yellows work out, that would give me 4 decent blades instead of two on hand.

I noticed on TSD that they have a group buy for these blades. 100 Voskhod double-edge blades for $12.00 shipped to international members. So 12 cents a blade which seems fairly reasonable given the joy expressed here for them.

They are being sold only in cards. Each card contains twenty 5-blade packs which is 100 blades per card. You can purchase as many cards as you'd like.

So the question is - how many cards should I get myself :)

None - you belong on the SE side now - unless you are either going to split them in half and use in an SE razor (probably not reccommended) or you are on the start of your 3rd asddiction in a fortnight :)

Now that sounds like a New Year's resolution!

(BTW - used my Red Ring today...)

So back to the question - are these any good and how many cards should I get?
