The Worst Blade in The World

When I asked PJ if he's like to try a 53 year old carbon Gillette Thin he replied:

So I guess I'll just have to take one for the team! I've loaded said carbon Gillette into my Slim in preparation for tomorrows shave. If I don't report back by this time tomorrow, it is safe to assume that I bled to death in the bathroom. :amazed:

I was talking to an old friend over the weekend who's now working with Fiona Woods, the famous burns victim/skin graft specialist here in WA. Interesting stuff, how skin cells are basically grown, chopped up and sprayed on to the affected areas. But don't take my word for it, JayDee will be able to tell us first hand all about it very shortly.

You have to admit, this is an interesting thread. Painful maybe...but interesting.

Should we be asking about tetanus jabs too?

Actually this discussion now reminds me of this brush which I noticed recently on eBay.

I'm very glad that it is 'Sterilized free from Anthrax'

I'm sure you will be all pleased to hear that I did not, in fact, bleed to death. This is due to 2 reasons:
1. The blade was SO blunt that it could not even cut facial hair, let alone skin.
2. I turfed it half way through my first pass.

It literally just bounced off any kind of resistance. I persevered with it on my left cheek but once it got anywhere near the heavier growth around my chin, it just tugged and tugged but didn't actually remove much! I've still got 2 left, masochists form a line to the left... :p

The whole anthrax thing is the only reason they stuck (or were legally obliged to) decals on in the first place. Stunning looking little brush by the way.

***BUMP***
New Candidate-Pink and White wrapped Carbon Steel Flying Eagles!
Could not believe how bad these were.Painful,Tuggy and hardly any whisker removal.
2 strokes on each cheek using both sides of the blade was enough.I didn't dare put it anywhere near my neck.

PJ-If you are still seriously looking to try the worst blade in the world I will happily post you a few of these from the UK for you to try.
IF these were the only blades left in the world I'd rather use a broken bottle instead!

I think I would be scared to try any carbon blades.

I like the sound of them. I wonder what the deal is with sharpening. I can't imagine that people in the old days would have shaved with them in such a blunt state. I'll PM you with my address. Thanks. Sexy name...Flying Eagle.

Haven't posted on this forum for a while... Shogun blades are crap! Got them in Singapore last year.

They were the first blades to go on the list after I sent Pjotr a pack. I think he tried two blades as he couldn't believe the first could be so bad

PJ's such an uncultured philistine and a total glutton for punishment.

Nice to see you about rm... and now everyone can't call me that! Monsta is fine.

No I didn't. One was more than enough. Actually the one didn't last more than half a stroke. If one's that bad the others can't possibly be much better. It's fine being an uncultered philistine but to complement that with a face like a slab of road kill would push it just a tad too far. I'll save'm for some poor newbie.

Tried a Laser Ultra which was sent to me by hunnymonsta. Unfortunately it didn't live up to it's reputation. It actually gave a good shave. I can't see it lasting beyond three but it certainly didn't knock the Shogun off first spot.

thanks for the heads up. ive seen them before when i was travelling, luckily i decided to pack my own blades.

as for the worst blade in the world, there was a packet of chinese gillette reds. (mustve left them at home somewhere), those were so bad, it actually inflamed my skin and caused me to have a red face for almost a week.

ill upload a picture when i can

Did three or four with the Laser and it was a pretty good blade. Unfortunately. There are plenty of good to half decent blades out there. It's the really bad ones that are the holy grail of this thread. Worth a try.

Punktal next. There should be two of them in the pack I sent.

I've been seriously distracted with vintage DE blades lately and have neglected my quest to find the worst blade in the world. My recent experience with the R41, although not the blades fault (Personna Red), reminded me what it's like to have a really bad shave and hence my bumping this thread again.
I've shaved with four potential candidates and:

  1. Shogun knocks them for dead. truly appalling
  2. Merkur, universally hated I found to be no more or less MUM
  3. Lada ditto
  4. Laser Ultra ditto
Next on the schedule is the Punktal.
If you have any potential candidates please PIF them my way.

Careful with the Punktal I've been too scared to use a 2nd one
