2024 Shaving Acquisitions Thread

You soak boar bristles before using them. The bristle ends will split with use and bloom, making for a more luxurious lathering experience.
Yes.
But I thought that bristles have to be whole wet. Otherwise the dry part would crack easily.
Or is it just my imagination?😂

@TomG , hi on the Forum are these the blades people are referring to when they say “Spoilers” and not the USA made ones with “the SPOILER” backlit with yellow on the blade case? If so I’ve now got both without realising!! 👍

Hi, Les.
The Aussie Spoilers were manufactured at the same time as the US Spoilers, at the Australian Gillette Factory.
I have a decent stash of both, and to be honest, I think the Aussie Spoilers are a little better. Hence, when opportunity knocked, I broke down the door. ;)

I am putting together a new travel kit for a three week road trip in August. I purchased this travel razor from Aliexpress on sale for $16.16 with free shipping. It came with a synthetic knot which I found to be totally useless so I drilled it out and replaced it with a 22mm SHD HMW Badger knot for $36.48 delivered. I now have a fantastic travel brush at a cost of $52.64. I used it this morning and it performed as expected. 😁 😁 😁

ORNO.jpg

I don't know why I bought this. Probably because the price was right and I have an affinity for shiny things. Its pedigree is questionable. The scales say Arnoldi, but the few Arnoldi's that I have seen have Arnoldi and Solingen stamped on the tang whereas this only has ORNO on the tang. WTF is ORNO?

On the positive side, it is a 13/16 full hollow in excellent condition with little to no hone wear. Tomorrow I am going to clean it up and hone it. I will shave with it over the weekend and if I like it I am going to put it in my dopp bag.

Some of you may recall a beautiful "Southern Skies" brush I had made by @Irish of Forgotten Art. That got smashed by a flicked towel, so I asked @TroyTools to make me another, not as a copy, but inspired by the original. I have a bit of a record now of presenting him with challenges, and he's blown them away every time, and this is no exception. This handle is a bit beyond a reflection of an earthly sky, it's more cosmic. To complement it, I have foregone my usual aversion to badgers and opted for a huge 30mm silvertip. Meet "Nebulish" (plus extras turned from the same blank)...

A TOB is a joy forever. :smug: As you can see, I've already bloomed the knot a little, but it's going to be a while before it stops hogging lather. All part of the process. Beautiful work, Troy (y) (y)
