I admit I laughed quite openly in the past at guys who used balms. Pfffft, the swarthy such as myself used lotions, we slapped on the alcohol with gay aband...well let's say "liberally applied" then. Ready for the day and the ladies.
...but I'm never above eating humble pie.

I now prefer my cold wash, alum, cold wash, witch hazel and then after the dry (and tool clean-up) a nice soothing balm. There's lots out there and some are better than others. So I'd be keen on others opinions on balms and gels they've tried and liked (and not liked) and why.

Curious to try so many, including the Trumpers Skin Foods, but so far...

Don't like:
Tabac (too heavy)
Redgum (too heavy)

Hmmm, not sure:
Nivea (meh...)
Cade (can take a while to sink in)

Like:
Weleda
Razorock Wax
Shaver Heaven

My current fave:
Myrsol Emulsion

Skin food - yuck.

I may have some samples you can try

One I've been using and enjoy a LOT is @shavetheman's ASB. The sample I have is scentless. I believe there will be a range of them- and mentholated is an option. (You know the drill- "coming soon" [emoji12])

I also enjoy the Soap Commander ASB. It beats their soaps IMHO. A few guys got the scentless ASB in the group buy earlier this year.

Any idea on the ingredients in the @shavetheman balm?
Should be available in "two weeks" or so mate? ;)

Oh I completely forgot about the Soap Commander...I might still have a sample of it somewhere. I remember it being not bad even a year or so ago...unlike their soaps which I didn't much rate at all.

Nah, not a clue. Samples are like that; you never know what's inside...

The other ASB I like (well, more a milk like the Emulsion) is the Jabonman ASB. Top stuff that. (We must go another group buy sometime...[emoji51])

So do they contain alcohol? I know Weleda AS does contain alcohol and most myrosols do as well...

Yes, I rate it too, a liquefied balm works well.

@stillshunter Another option is Stirling, both their balm and non alcoholic splash.

I like all of them splashes, creams, tonics and lotions with or without alcohol.
I generally prefer balms/lotions light or unscented and alcohol free. I use them as general face moisturizer throughout the day. I don't always want to "stink pretty" as my grandfather would say after he used Avon.

If this new store has many of the American artisans, it will be the death of me.
So do they contain alcohol? I know Weleda AS does contain alcohol and most myrosols do as well...
Shaver Heaven has a little, Myrsol has none neither does Nivia sensitive.

Myrsol's Emulsion has no alcohol....another reason I love it. I've yet to find anything as good...or as simple only a few 'simple' ingredients:
Aqua, stearic acid, triethanolamine, lanolin, glycerin, sodium, methylparaben, menthol and parfum.
I'm no chemist and don't know enough about the hype surrounding TEA and parabens, but I'm sure each is like fluoroantimonic acid but hey....

I generally prefer balms/lotions light or unscented and alcohol free.
Mate which are some of your faves...and not.

@stillshunter out of the 7 balms I have currently.
Love
Bulldog original (medium scent but smells natural, good ingredients)
Myrsol emulsion (simple, light scent, menthol)
Aldi prince sensitive (current most used, very light scent and texture)
Like
Proraso green (strong scent, menthol and cooling effect)
Vintage Avon musk for men (light scent and texture, makes skin feel very smooth)
Ehhh not bad, but....
Shaver Heaven forbidden forest (a little too thick and scent too strong)
Nivia sensitive (I don't like the artificial perfume smell)

Aldi balm was my grandfather's never see it for sale myself, came in glass. I wish I could get more, It's almost gone.
Shaver Heaven is too thick for its current container, nice ingredients and face feel. Forbidden Forest is not my favorite scent ever and this balm smells strong!

Trumpers Skinfoods contain alcohol, but personally I'm yet to find a better A/S, just remember a little of this goes a very long way. Too much and it takes forever to absorb and becomes a sticky, slimy mess.

Thanks mate, what's your flavour in this range? The Limes?

Thanks for your input mate. Not heard of the Bulldog before - is this available from regular pharmacies? The ingredients list looks mostly good.

At first I assumed you were talking about our local - 'specials of the week' pot-luck Aldis. But I assume you are not. Is this the packaging?

Limes or Coral.

I have never used that many after shave balms. My favourites are CRSW fall balm and Shaver Heaven 1st Anniversary balm.
