Removing blades between shaves.

Does anybody here do it? Think it's supposed to prevent rusting or corrosion. Seems to be flavour of the month at the other forums but in my few years of DE shaving I have not had any issues.

Pfft, only if using Carbon blades. Even then I would just shake out the razor after I was finished, dunk the razor head into a jar of Isocol/Isopropyl Alcohol for 10 secs and shake out, put it back into my razor stand.

It's a complete wank, equivalent to turning the blades over to get more life from them.

Not usually in my modern razors, but have had to in the Slim as the hair gets everywhere and won't wash out. Easier to take out the blade to clean the razor.

Haha! Yeah, I've heard of people 'stropping' their blade between shaves. Utter nonsense!

Sounds like a great way to accidentally damage the blade edge.

If you use a three piece razor you touch a blade only when you load it or chuck it. If you've got a TTO and a vintage blade dispenser you don't touch it at all. Of course one could follow this with YMMV (an acronym which if used, similar to smileys and the word gentleman, should lead to a life time ban) but basically it's a load of toss.

I take blades out after every shave regardless of what razor I use. For most of them, this is just so I can clean the crap out from underneath and then dry the blade. For the iKon, even stainless blades left in the razor can cause some surface rust to start forming. It started to form around the top cap for me, and was easily removed with a toothbrush. Now I've just made it a habit to rinse and dry all the razor parts with water and then leave them apart to dry.

There's really no reason to do it other than cleaning. Any amount of blade corrosion that might occur is surely so miniscule as to be insignificant.

That's my experience as well. Just to clean. But for me, it's only the TTO which seems to not wash cleanly. The other razors (2 or 3 piece) are all ok. I leave the blade alone.

No other reason.

Yes, on the rare chance that I would keep a blade for more than 1 shave. I do take it out of the razor, rinse, dry, palm strop it, and keep it on a magnet till the next time

You forgot about throwing it into LN2.

I will quickly rinse the razor off under clean water, shake excess water off and MAYBE slightly loosen the head but even doing that last step is redundant IMHO (haha so why am I bloody doing it!!! Good question). Like RM said, unless you're using one of the few carbon steel blades on the market there's little logical upside and far more likely to cut yourself, drop your razor on the floor or damage the blades edge by bumping it on something.

I just rinse, shake and blow on it. The blowing bit came from my Father so I just do it,.................it maybe gets the last drops of water off I suppose.

PS. I even did in on cart blades too.

You are getting to be a worry Marlow - first with the facterbating and now blowing your razor - shaving must be quite an experience for you, but I hopeyou remember to keep the door closed :)
