It's just occurred to me that we've come this far in a discussion of lather bowls without once mentioning the Rover bowl.
Perfect for travel or feeding your dog (what it was originally designed for, to slow him down), I can't recommend these highly enough, they lather super-fast. Get them at Artisan Arcade, $13.95 with your next Stirling order.

How could we forget the lather bowls made iconic by Nico in his great southern adventure to Antarctica

The collapsible puppy feed bowls are a good travel bowl.

I've actually found a good design for 3d printing a lather bowl on B&B. Does anyone have a 3D printer and are keen to do a run of custom shaving bowls? I could get one printed commercially, but thought I'd ask here first.

I could print some of these if anyone is interested. Let me print one or two first to figure out some settings. It's probably worth stating up front that these probably aren't the best idea from a hygiene perspective, as 3d prints are usually slightly porous, and by their nature have a lot of micro-holes in them. That provides spots for bacteria to hide and grow unseen. If they were printed using a resin printer in nylon that might not be as much a consideration.

I’m keen to get one or two in the XL size if you can get it printing well.

I haven’t read any negative comments about the shaving bowl (or any other 3D printed bowl) in regards to hygiene issues.

As long as the plastic can tolerate almost boiling water, I’m sure it could be cleaned safely and dry quickly. Is there a particular plastic which is best for heat stability?

Nylon would be ok for that, but that's probably not possible to print. Most Etsy shops etc would normally be printing in PLA. I'll run PLA first and then try something a little higher temp, it gets more challenging as the plastic tends to want to warp without a heated chamber.

This is the extra large. It's good, but huge. That's a 24mm synthetic Yaqi Moka.

The top of the bowl is 155mm across. The best comparison I have is that the Yaqi plastic bowl is 125mm across. In volume it's about 30% larger... Which to me is just way too big. It does lather quickly.

Looks great! I’m happy to be guided by your impressions. I’ll totally buy one or two of whichever model you recommend when you’re happy with the printing.

Ok, so this is the large - same brush, which gives you a perspective on size difference. It lathered much faster than the larger bowl (may have been technique, but I think it's because the smaller bowl gives more contact area.

The print on this was much better with some setting tweaks, I'll try this one again, but scale it +10-15% as the brush handle was hitting the sides more than I would like. Bowl seems just a little too small. A few more tweaks to get a nice print and then I'll post some more photos.

I will say though... It's good, and looks good, but I reckon the silicon dog bowl may just beat it in speed of lather generation.

ok, I've got this bowl printing in a size and quality I'm happy with. How many people want one? $15ea + postage. I'm thinking about ordering in a lot of 10 of the Weishi 9306 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32539427889.html, and potentially the Yintal DE https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32815309563.html (same as the bronze one but in Chrome - I asked them) both of which Errol reviewed very favourably if there enough people that want one of those and the bowl I can ship them out together. Also happy to include some sample blades or tuck at cost of those that I've got multiple of for anyone who's interested in trying BIC's, Nacets, Clouds, Voskhods, Astra SP, 7 O Clock Permasharps, Apache Personnas (China).

Here is a cheap lather bowl I’ve been using. It’s $3.50 from Kmart. The large oval shape is good if you have a large brush and like to work the lather around a lot. Your brush handle is not going to bang into the sides. It holds the lather reasonably well. They are all shaped slightly differently, so you can get it in a smaller or bigger size. I don’t recommend too narrow though, because that makes it harder to swirl the brush around. It takes up bit of space and it’s not a fancy looking bowl, but it’s been working well.
